I then added a price, barcode, and Puff. I again kept to the colour scheme with the barcode being white and the price being pink and white. i put the price above a pug so its easily visible. I also put a puff on the side with the colour being black this doesn't match the colour scheme and therefore stands out from the rest. The exageration of 'worlds best magazine' will encourage the audience to think that this particular magazine is better than any other magazine and therefore they will buy it to see why.
I then added a coverline and a banner about a competition to win V-Festival Tickets, which is the biggest concert to attend in the somewhere and where everyone wants to be, by putting this on the front page it will attract my audience and make them want to try and win the tickets, this is also where the genre of music (RnB) will be played therefore this is exactly the place for my target audience to go. i put a pink banner behind the text so you can see it clearer while also decreasing the opacity of the banner,so you can still see the image behind. The coverline is a hint to tell the audience about what the double page spread is about. This will make them want to read the magazine to see what it is about. i again kept with the colour scheme of pink and white, co-ordinating with the rest of the page and keeping to a feminine look to match my target audience.
I then added my Main cover line which is telling the audience that inside there is an 'Exclusive Interview featuring Amy-Jayne' who is also on the front of the magazine. i have used white and pink font to match the colour scheme, the white co-ordinating with the pettles down the side of her body and the pink matching the flowers however a darker pink to stand out even more, doing this will attract my audience as my target audience will know who Amy-Jayne is and will want to find out what she has said in the magazine.
This is my front cover with my Masthead. I have called my RnB magazine 'GRIND', and due to my target audience being females i have made it the colour pink. I think the colour pink goes well with the green and also co-ordinates with the flowers and the ipod that the model is listening to. The font i used for my masthead is called 'Action of Time' i thought it went well with my magazine as you can see through it aswell as it standing out to catch the customer eye.
This is the photo that i will be using on the front cover of my magazine. This will be covering the whole page so therefore also being the background. i made my model lay down against the grass, while i spreaded her hair around her head putting flowers and pettles around her. i then put the camera angle above her like a birds eye view as she looked up at the camera this angle makes it look like she isn't laying down and that she is standing with her hair floating around above her. i think her like this will make her stand out as an artist aswell as make my magazine stand out. i think this worked well for a magazine front cover as it leaves room around her body and above her face for texts while still making her visible. i also had her listening to an ipod to reflect the fact that the magazine is an RnB music magazine. i thought the photograph went well with my colour scheme being pink and white, because there are pink and white flowers and the colour green of the grass goes very well with pink and white.
Add caption
This is my final double page spread. I changed the font colour of the title to white because you couldnt really read it very well when it was in purple. i also added a photo of a medium close up from the front of Amy next to the third collum of writing. i also put a quote at the bottom of the photo of what a quote that Amy-Jayne said. I believe my double page spread was successful i had to move the text round alot to make sure it didn't go through the middle. i think the colour scheme worked out well because even the model matchs the colour scheme and everything on the page co-ordinates with eachother making it look pretty, which will also match my target audience as its a very feminine page. Also with all the girls loving artist 'Justin Bieber' they will be even more interested to read Amy Jaynes interview on how she was recognised by him and how he made her famous.
i then added the text of the interview of Amy Jayne.  i put two collum of text on the left and one collum on the right as i am planning on putting another image next to it. i have made the text white and green to keep to the colour scheme and the title of the page purple. i have put the interviewer text in white and Amy jaynes answers in green.
i didnt think that the previous image was good enough for the double page spread background as it was blury and the editing was poor quality. So therefore i changed to these images. i think these images are good as i made it so she is all dressed up like an artist and the photo of the right makes it look like she is looking at herself with a proud face because she is proud of what she has become (a famous artist). i put her in a purple dress as the colour scheme of my double page spread is purple white and green. The photo on the right is edited to a darker colour, this could represent her before she became famous, looking at her now famous. i kept the photo on the left bright, to represent her now. i like the contrast of the two photo's together.
This was my image and background for my double page spread. i used the clone stamp tool to make the woods seam like they carried on going along next to my model. i thought this would look good if i was to put my texts and title to the right so it wasn't so obvious that i had edited the photo to be like that.

Double Page Spread Ideas

More ideas of what could be on my double page spread.

This is my Third idea of a double page spread. The title will be on a banner going across the top right and corner. making it easily visible and persuading the audience to read the rest of the page. there will aslo be a quote at the top of the page doing the same thing. This time i have put two medium sized images on the page and 2 polaroid images bellow giving the audience more to look at again making it more interesting as if its not just aload of text on a page that they have to read. I have used the technique again of putting into collunms so it looks like there is less there.

This is another idea of my double page spread. I have put a big image on the left again and then also a smaller one, taken at a different angle giving the audience more to look at. there will be quotes again telling the audience something she has said making them want to read interview and find out why she has said it.
I have put the text this time into 4 collunms. This makes it look like there is less text so for those of my audience that dont like reading this technique makes it look like there isnt much there for them to have to read. The tile will be at the top of the page above the interview.

This is my first double page spread idea. I have put the title at the top of the page, which will be persuasive text encourage the audience to read the interview. There will be a big image on the left, showing more of the artist and therefore abit more of the artist personality making the audience know more about her, feeling as if they now know her as a friend. There will a quote over the images saying something she has said so that if they havnt read the interview yet it will persuade to read and find out why she has said whatever she has said. This technique will also be used in a banner splitting up the two paragraphs of text.

Front Cover Ideas

This is my third idea of my front cover. This is a medium close up of the model again looking directly at the audience. I have put a banner at the bottom again as i have decided that its definetely the best place for it, it will have a competition win on top again attracting people towards it. This time the Masthead is at the top to the left , with a pug of the price next to it, by putting them next to eachother , when they read the masthead they will see the cheap easy price of the magazine and hopefully be persuaded to pick it up and buy it. i again put the main coverline next to the face of the model and the cover line below, then with the barcode easily visible and also not in the way.

This is my second drawing of what my front cover may look like. It is an extreme close up of the model looking directly at the audience. A close up is good because the audience can connect with the model , and with the model most lickely being famous it will draw the audiences attention to the magazine. Again i have put the barcode at the bottom left corner of the page, out of the way and easily visible so that the worker can scan it without a fuss leaving the customer waiting. I also put a competition win on it again however this time i i put it going across the bottom, looking like banner, again this will attract people wanting to enter the competiton and try and win. I put the main cover line to left of the models face as the main coverline will be about the model. i also put a coverline to the right of the page, and another pug but this time on the left, so that it is not covering the models face. Masthead is at the top of the page across the models forhead it will be infront of the model so that it is easy to read.

This is my first idea of my front cover. The model will be on the left hand side of the magazine however the whole image will be the background of the magazine. the model will be looking up towards the magazine, if she was looking away it wouldnt be presenting the magazine, by her looking at the magazine it makes the audience want to look at the magazine. However because the model isnt looking directly at you it stops the audience from connecting with her and being drawn to the magazine so much. The masthead will be at the top of the magazine in the centre, this will make it very easily visible and will stand out so the audience know what magazine they are looking at straight away. There will be a competition win in the bottom corner at an angle this will encourage people to pick up the magazine and have ago at winning. there will be a main coverline attracting the audience to read inside the magazine to the right of the magazine and there will be a coverline to the left of the model, giving a hint about the double page spread, not telling to much information, because i want the audience to have to buy the magazine to find out what the coverline is about. there wll also be a pug telling the price in the centre of the mag. The pug is like a sticker it will stand out and will therefore let the audience know how much the magazine without them having to search around the page or even go out there way of asking someone else.

This is my third contents page. it is divided into sections so that there are no blank spaces on the page at all. Again the pages are at the bottom in a seperate box so it is easily visible. The title of the page is down the side in bold letters so the audience again immediatly know what they are looking at. the images are in the middle of the page to make it more interesting for those that dont like reading. they willl also have page numbers on them telling the audience what page to find either more images or information on the images.

This is my second idea of a contents page. Many contents pages look very busy and crowded with images and information. however i believe its better for the contents page to be empty or spaced out. I think this because i think its the most important page for the audience. its where they find out where to find what they are looking for and if the page is crowded and busy there is to much to look at and they cant find what they want easily. Therefore i have put the page numbers at the bottom again in a seperate box so that the audience know imediately where to look if they want the page numbers. i have then putting images in the middle at angles for decoration and there will be either quotes or more about the competition in the middle of the page. the title will be at the top in the centre so that again the audience immediatly know what they are looking at.

This is my first idea of a contents page. At the top is a banner with the tittle over the top. It bodly says contents page in big letters so that the audience immediatly know what they are looking at. There are then images filling up the middle as some people find pictures more interesting to look at rather than reading text. These images will aslo have page numbers on them telling the audience what page they will find more about the image on. At the bottom of the page are very neatly collunms of page numbers telling the audience what are on the pages. By putting them neatly at the bottom the audience can very easily find what they are looking for without having to scan the page eventually getting giving up.
These are my possible fonts for my Masthead on my front cover. I drew this out and then past it around the classroom for people to tally which masthead font was there favourite. Mast head 1 recieved zero votes, masthead 2 recieved 9 votes, masthead 3 recieved zero votes and masthead 4 recieved 9 votes. Therefore its between masthead 4 and 2 for which one is going to be on the front cover of my magazine. i believe this was a good idea as my classmates are the ages of my target audience therefore they will know best what my target audience will prefer.

Audience Profile

This is katie. She is 18 years old and is currently at sixth form studying media, maths and photography. She loves going out, listening to music and having fun. She reads magazine on a regular basis and always wants to know whats top of the charts when it comes to music. She loves the freebies and competitions that you can enter to win tickets the best concert that season. Her favourite music is RnB and her favourite artists are Chris Brown, Usher, Pixie lott and Neyo, all that specialise in the RnB genre. Although these are her favourite artists she is also inspired by artists such as rhianna and jesse j, she loves their fashion sence and their constant change of hair styles. She always wants to keep up with fashion and the latest trends. This is exactly the kind of person that my magazine is aimed at. Someone that loves inside gossip on artist and loves to know whats top of the charts and when the next singles are out.

Second Questionnaire

What Gender Are you? A total of 25 people filled in my Questionnaire. Out of the 25, 19 were female and 6 were male. This then indicated that it was mainly females that were interested in answering my questionnaire and therefore is most likely that mainly females will be interested in my magazine too. So i will aim my magazine towards a female audience but maybe involve artists that can attract the male gaze. How Old Are You 2 people were bellow 15, 3 people were 25+, 9 people were in the age bracket of 16-18, and the last 10 fit in at the ages of 19-24. If i analyse this i was right to choose my target audience at an age range from 17-25, because 19 people out of the possible 25 were between the ages of 16-24. having the majority of the people that answered my questionnaire fit into my original target audience age range is helpful because i can most definitely use the information collected from this to make decisions in my production process and almost be guaranteed that it will fill the needs of this age range.I can use my questionnaire to help me satisfy my audience. What Music Magazine do you prefer? In order from lowest to highest, no people chose 'Classical', 12 people like 'Mixmag', 6 people like 'vibe' and 'NME', and 7 people prefer Q. This result shows that my intuitions for my target audience were correct in the sense that they were slightly more mature and go for the slightly more sophisticated magazine. Mixmag has the closest resemblance to my initial ideas for my genre where they would mostly focus on a girly presentable appearance. What type of music do you prefer? 0 people again chose 'Classical', 3 people chose 'Other', 9 prefer ' R'n'B', 4 listen to 'Rock', 7 for 'Pop' and finally 2 for 'Indie'. These results show, that i was right to choose an RnB genre magazine with a hint of pop for my target audience as both these scored the highest percentage of the votes. Again this will help me satisfy my audience as i will now know what they look for in the magazine of my music that they prefer. How Often do you buy a magazine? 2 people that answered this question put 'never' buys magazines, an equal amount of 4 people had chosen they 'rarely' buy a music magazine and buy a magazine 'once a month' however, 7 had chosen 'once a fortnight', and the remaining 8 buy magazines 'once a week'. this result indicates to me that my target audience read music magazines frequently, and for me to meet the needs of my audience i must be prepared to sell my magazines weekly in order to keep their interest, this also means the content of the magazine must always have versatility and a unique selling point to maintain it's attraction to the audience. How Much would you spend on a music magazine? 1 person has voted that they would only spend '-£1' on a magazine, 4 voted between '£1-2',3 voted £2-3 3 voted '£4+', and the remaining 14 Chose '£3-4' . The reason i believe the audience may not have chosen the cheapest options as opposed to the dearer options is because they know that by only paying a small amount the quality of the magazine wouldn't be as high as they expected whether its the content or the paper finish used, they may believe it wouldn't be up to their standards. Also if my target audience is of a slightly older age group, they have more money to spend as opposed to the younger ones who still may only get money from their parents. I will therefore be charging my magazine at a price of £3. What do you look for in a Music Magazine? out of the 25 people that had voted, 3 people chose the category 'Other' and one person chose the category ' Posters', as for the rest of the votes 3 people look for 'Competitions', 5 for 'Photographs', 5 for 'New albums/artists', and the remaining 9 for 'Band Interviews'. This shows that my target audience prefer the actual written content of the magazine, such as the interviews and new or upcoming artists as opposed to the posters they can receive out of it. The photographs also had a higher vote, but these would automatically come with the stories, it just means i can use a larger amount of photo's to keep the audience interested and making look presentable. Which story idea do you prefer? Again 3 People chose 'other' where they a clearly not interested in the magazine at all. 15 chose story one, 5 chose story 2 annd an equal 5 chose story 3. This made it very easy for me to pick which story to do, as clearly my audience preferred story one to the other two. This means that some of my audience will be persuaded to buy the magazine just because they want to read and find out more about the story. Which title do you prefer? 10 of the people chose rhythm and beats, another 10 chose Grind and 5 chose boom, this left with a total of 0 people choosing boom. I was verY shocked by the results of this as i was very sure that the title Rhythm and beats was too boring and common for the title of an RnB magazine and i didnt believe that boom had anything to do with RnB.However because the other two title completely split in half it gave me the opportunity to choose one myself. I therefore am going to choose Grind and i personally don't think that rhythm and beats is good enough. Which Colour scheme do you prefer? Black;White;Purple: 8 votes Black;white;green: 4 votes pink:white : 10 votes Black;Red;Green: 3 votes

Initial Colour Scheme Ideas

Black:Red:Green: These are very bright colours and therefore will stand out from other magazines. However this colour scheme could be miss taken for a rock or house genre. As RnB would appeal with more calm colours than bright powerful ones like these. these arent very feminine colours either and seeing as my target audience is females it would attract the people i want it to.

Black:WHITE:Green:  These colours go very nicely together and match my genre of music. However these colours would attract women and men, and when people look at my magazine i want them to imediately know that its for women.

Pink:White:: These two colours are definately feminine and would therefore attract women. The go very well together and with my main image on the front cover being of a female artist i could relate the colour scheme to the image too.

Black:Purple:White: i love these three colours together and i would also class these as feminine colours therefore they would attract my target audience. However the colour purple is quite solid and could therefore be seen as more of a rock magazine.

Initial Idea

So far in my process of creating a media product, i have analysed existing magazines and audiences to determine the type of magazine i would want to create. I have come to the conlusion that i would want to create a music magazine with an RnB genre of music, this would consist of many artists that fall under the genre of Pop/RnB however, the difference for my magazine which could offer a more unique selling point is that it will contain alot more mainstream artists who are also well known and influencial. In my opinion, doing this would mean that my magazine would appeal to a much larger audience, giving the magazine a higher rate of success. The age range i am targeting would be between 17-25, this isn't a specific category split, but i believe it is a reasonable aged audience of young adults, this means that the way i portray my magazine would still be funky and RnB in a sense, however, slightly more sophisticated in the way everything would be layed out.

Initial masthead ideas

Rhytm And Beats-  This would be a good title as it straight away tells the audience the genre of music. no other title could relate to RnB music like this one. However this isnt very original and therefore wouldnt stand out from other magazines, or attract my audience to the magazine.

Beats- This is a good title as it straight away tells the audience that its a music magazine. However it could be just a music magazine in general or it could be any kind of genre. It doesnt stand out to be an RnB magazine and to have a successful magazine that my audience are going to love and recognize it needs to be more specific.

Boom- I liked this Masthead at first but after i thought more about it i realised that This wouldnt be very good for an RnB magazine as it seems to loud and aggressive, something you would see more on a rock kind of magazine. Also with my target audience being females its not very feminine and therefore doesn't appeal to my audience.

Grind- This would be good for a title as its not very common and it stands out, there isn't any RnB magazines out at this present time with a masthead like 'Grind'. It also relates to the genre of music very well, attracting my audience by knowing full well what the magazine is about before even picking it up.

Initial Story Ideas for double page spread

Story 1
My first idea is a young girl being noticed on youtube by extremely famous artist justin bieber. This story would be told by her herself in a interview. Therefore by it being an interview it is easier for the audience to believe as it is being said by the new artist herself. In this interview she will say how she felt at the time, how it happend, how she is living her life now. This will be very interesting for the audience as it will also show them the contrast of her life before and after with even pictures as evidence.

Story 2
My second idea of a story would be a well known famous artist, becoming bankrupt and addicted to drugs and alcahol. This will be presented in a paragraphs of text with quotes from family and friends. This will be very interesting and exciting for the audience however it could come across as hard to believe as theere is a chance that the magazine could of twisted it or even made it up.

Story 3
My third idea was of a famous girl band breaking up due to one of them wanting to become a solo artist. This would be very interesting as it could come across very bitchy and exciting for the audience, as it its very backstabbing for an artist to leave their band to become a solo. This would be presented in a tence awkward interview of the group together for the first time since the decision was made official.

Uses And Gratifications Theory

Uses and Gratifications theory Uses and gratifications theory is a way of approaching mass communication to an audience. The theory places more focus on the consumer or audience, the theory tries to embed the idea that consumers have an active roll in interpreting media into their own lives. The theory also claims that audiences are responsible for choosing media to meet their needs, for example if the audience like indie/alternative or Dance/Pop magazines, they would obviously choose a magazine that consisted colours, fonts, images and models that attract that type of people. This theory suggests that consumers use the media to gain specific gratifications.

Audience Demographics

Audience Demographics In order to produce a successful media product, you must be able to understand the audience demographic and this is determined by assessing many socio-economic factors such as the level of income, the area in which they live in, age, gender, occupation etc. Doing this is a vital part in production, marketing, and distribution for a media product because it gives the institutions a better and more detailed insight into what their target audience expect, and therefore are able to create a product that fulfills their wants and needs, this is an essential for a product to become successful.

This is Abraham Maslows Hireachy of needs. Its is a phsycological theory that can be relevant to many subjects such as business, economics, sociology and phsychology. However i am using his Theory for my magazine which is marketing in the media indusrty. Maslow believe that the stages going from physiological, up towards the top being self-ectualization are the steps an individual needs in order to make them self happy at their job. The bottom of the pyramid are the importants NEEDS that an idividual has such as breathing food ,water, these are quite extreme and you dont just need them to be happy you need them to stay alive. as you get further up the pyramid everything becomes less important and they turn into wants rather than needs, however these are still making the individual happy. In a marketing sense, the marketing industry will place their product in a section in order to establish the rate that is would sell, the consumers, the price, the quality and even the location. Due to my product being a magazine it will be placed at the top of the pyramid as it is not a NEED it is a luxury item that the customers could easily live without.

Questionaire

Seeing as my poll unfortunatelly didnt recieve any votes i decided to hand out questionaires instead to people around my school. This then could gurantee to get that i will get replys, i sent out these questionaires to see what people at my age look for in a magazine, therefore i could put exactly what they want and how they wanted it in my magazine. Firstly i asked them how much they would be happy to pay, the most answers that came back were £3 therefore i will be making my magazine 3 pounds, because then i know that people would be happy to pay that price for my magazine. I also asked what they look for in a magazine and the most answered was celebrity interviews and pictures, so i will therefore put on my double page spread an interview of a celebrity and i will also put on my magazine contents page what other pages to find more interviews of other celebrities on. I also asked them what genre of music they prefered to listen to and my most answered was actually RnB which worked out really well for me seeing as thats my genre of music my magazine is going to be about.
